Mindfulness for mental health and well-being
Mindfulness integrated Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for depression, anxiety, and stress and to develop resilience and well-being
This eight-week program teaches mindfulness skills together with CBT to help to modify the mental processes that cause us to feel “ill” at ease. Specifically, we work on fresh awareness of the thinking patterns and accompanying body sensations which arise and contribute to recurring stress, anxiety and depression, anger, chronic pain and attentional issues. The CBT elements enable participants to integrate and apply the skills to the troublesome issues of our lives. MiCBT is designed to address the underlying processes common to a wide range of psychological problems to improve psychological well-being and resilience, providing both short and long-term benefits.
MiCBT is developed by Dr. Bruno Cayoun and shares some similarities with Kabat Zinn’s MBSR and Segal, Teasdale and Williams MBCT programs.
However, MiCBT is designed as a transdiagnostic program and powerfully integrates mindfulness skills with cognitive and behavioural techniques to enable behavior change. MiCBT has a strong emphasis on body awareness and “equanimity”(acceptance with non-reactivity) and the connection to thoughts and emotions/body sensatiolns.
Mindfulness-based therapies have proven effectiveness in many research studies over the last thirty years and Dr Francis’s PhD research demonstrated the effectiveness of MiCBT in a recent randomised controlled trial in which the significant improvements were gained and maintained over a 6-month period.
On completion of MiCBT program through active engagement with the mindfulness exercises participants will be able to:
- use mindfulness skills in daily life to manage emotional reactivity
- have a better understanding of the relationship between mental and physical experiences and mood
- be better able to relax, think more clearly and control thoughts
- gain enhanced ability to manage stress, anxiety and depression
- be able to apply mindfulness skills to assist in changing habitual behavioural patterns
- have an enhanced sense of well-being
The program provides:
- Pre-program assessment
- 8 two hour group sessions
- Feedback and support with skilled facilitation by highly trained psychologists
- Participant notes and audio instructions
- Free access to ongoing support group on completion of the program
